Niko's Lodge at nature's back door: Campton Forest Preserve
Just minutes from Niko's lodge is the Townhall Road entrance to Campton Forest Preserve — a splendid restored natural area with wooded hills and rolling prairies. It's a great place for a short walk or a long, invigorating hike. Some of its designated trails allow bicycles and horseback riding, as well as winter snowmobile riding, snowshoeing, and sledding. If your passion is wildflowers, birdwatching, nature photography, or just enjoying the great outdoors, Campton is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
From the Kane County Forest Preserve website: "Campton is one of the largest preserves in the [Forest Preserve] system. The preserve stretches 1.25 miles from Town Hall Road to La Fox Road... Some of the most beautiful vistas in the county are found across Campton.
"Campton features equestrian and snowmobile trails, a shelter, parking area and restrooms for public use.
"Campton is located on Town Hall Road, approximately 6 miles west of Randall Road. It has several bridle paths that wind througout the park, and a horse trail that joins Campton with LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve."
